Steampunk on You Tube

As I get ready for the convention, I find myself day dreaming about the DIY (Do it yourself) projects that I can make not only for my costume, but as well to sell.
The possibilities are literally endless because I am at square one. I don't actually have anything made yet, but I'm brainstorming. I can't wait to make my mini top hat, It's going to blow your mind! I will definitely post that when I make it this week.
I was snooping around You Tube earlier today and found some really cool tutorials for things such as:

"How to make your own top hat out of foam"

These are all ideas that I was thinking about for my costume (though I make my top hats out of different supplies that are a bit stronger than foam or card stock).
When I first began to make jewelry, You Tube was a great teacher in the way of that art. You can pretty much learn anything you want from You Tube!

Even how to make a Steampunk Flashdrive!

The only bad thing about typing in Steampunk DIY in You Tubes search engine, is that I don't have enough time to make all those items!
What's a girl to do?!
I hope some of those links inspire you guys to try and make a few of your own Steampunk Accessories. I would love to hear about it!

Wire

As I'm preparing for the convention, I find myself stretched very thin when it comes to all the projects I want to make and not having enough time to make them.
Such is life.
When I do make projects, I tend to choose a few key favorite tools, one of those being wire.
In the Steampunk world, wire is awesome!
I love to make coils with wire to make something that is simple, suddenly complex and attract the eye.

Take, for example, this ring. ONE RING TO RULE THEM ALL! Haha It reminds me of Lord of the Rings, but that is not what I made it for. I took an eye (that I painted by the way) and made it into a very interesting piece by surrounding it with wire!
Who wouldn't want a ring like this? Though, I'd be singing "I always feel like somebody's watching me" all the time if I wore it around.

Awesome cross pendant.
For a while I was experimenting with making jewelry look more masculine. Barbed wire was the perfect look for this.

Wire wrapping isn't that hard, it takes a while to get a good technique, but once you've got it, you can do it while you watch a movie! Or...at least that's what I do.

Yeah, this thing still creeps me out and I made it! I call it ZOMBIE SPIDER!
Again, the barbed wire look, but I think it gives it some dimension.

Can you believe that those three projects were constructed of wire! It's so cool to create something almost out of thin air like that.
My favorite part is to take something so shapeless and bend it and work it until it looks how I want it to. There are times when I accept a challenge from my friend and I surprise myself when I actually complete the challenge excellently.

Anyway, as I make more creations for this convention, I find myself stock piling wire like its the end of the world...At least I'll have plenty to make cool stuff with.
I'll keep you posted on the wire front.
